Copy trading: leaders, followers, dry run and the kill switch
Set up a copy group: one leader, any number of followers, each sized and guarded on its own. Test in dry run, then go live.
Updated October 12, 2026
A copy group has one leader and any number of followers. You trade on the leader; every follower gets the same trade, sized by its own rules and stopped by its own guards. Opening and closing are always copied, and when the leader closes, the copies close too, whatever else is switched off.
Create a group
- 01
Connect at least two keys
One account to lead and one or more to follow (see Connect an exchange account).
- 02
Create the group
In Copy trading, choose New group, name it and pick the Leader: one of your accounts, or a public Hyperliquid wallet.
- 03
Add followers
Choose Add follower on the group and pick the account. Start from fills the form with a common setup (Mirror the leader, Challenge account, Half size, Scale by balance); nothing is saved until you save.
- 04
Set the size and guards
See the sizing and guard options below, then save the follower.
- 05
Test a trade
Test a trade shows what each follower would do with a sample trade, using the same rules the copier uses.
Sizing, per follower
- Multiplier: follower size = leader size × this number (up to 10). 0.5 copies half the leader's size.
- Fixed risk: each copy is sized so its stop costs this % of the follower's balance (up to 5%). Trades without a stop are skipped.
- Match balance: scales by the ratio of the two balances, so a 50K follower of a 100K leader trades half the size. Both accounts must be linked to tracked accounts.
- Fixed size: every copy is this size, in the exchange's own units.
- Every copy is rounded down to the exchange's size step, never up. Minimum size skips smaller copies; Maximum size caps bigger ones.
Guards and filters, per follower
- Symbols: copy all, only these, or all except these, with a symbol suffix if the account needs one.
- What to copy: stop loss and take profit, limit and stop orders, changes to stops and targets, partial closes, and Skip if the price moved more than a set amount.
- Guards: stop near the daily loss limit, max open positions, max copies a day, stop after losses in a row, pause during news windows, stop below equity. When one trips, the account stops copying until the next day, and you choose whether it only stops new copies or also closes the group's copies.
- Schedule: new copies wait for the hours you set; closes never wait.
- Copying to this account is on: switch a single follower off without touching the group.
Go from dry run to live
- 01
Start in dry run
New groups start Paused and in Dry run: copies are worked out and logged under the group's activity, but no orders are placed.
- 02
Turn on live copying (Production)
On the Copy trading page, Turn on live copying with your password. This switch covers the whole account; turning it off puts every group back in dry run at once.
- 03
Turn off the group's dry run
Switch the group's Dry run off and confirm Place real orders with your password. In Demo this places demo orders and needs no password.
- 04
Set the group to Active
Use the group's Paused / Active switch.
Stopping
- Paused: nothing new is copied. Open copies stay open and still close when the leader closes.
- Kill switch (per group): pauses the group and closes every position it opened on the followers, at market. Your own positions on those accounts are never touched.
- Stop all copying (top of the page): pauses every group at once. Open copies stay open and still close with their leader.
